I'm taking a spectroscopy class in which we are using this text. I find it to be very poorly written. NMR thoery is a very complex subject, however it is made more complex by the MANY errors we have found in the calculations and tables of the book. Some things are also very poorly explained. I'm very disappointed with it, but to be fair, with some supplemental reading you can get a good foundation in NMR with this book. I pity any UG that has to read this.

Organic Spectroscopy Made Clear

Crews is not a hardcore treatise of the subject. It does not cover the quantum mechanics behind spectroscopy and the complicated mathematical underneath the concept. Instead it discusses the fundamentals and results of such quantum calculations which apply to identification of organic compounds. Basic concepts of nuclear magnetic resonance, infrared spectroscopy, ultra violet spectroscopy are thoroughly covered with examples and charts. Crews is a splendidly-written, straight-forward work that would be suitable for advanced undergraduates who had finished at least one year of organic chemistry, for those who pursue chemical research, and entering grad students.

WORST SPEC BOOK

This book explains absolutely nothing in detail. I ended up having to drop my Organic Spectroscopy class because this book did not go in to detail enough what was required to learn for the class. I had to use 2 other books. The figures have little to no explanation. The HMQC, COSY, etc NMR didn't explain anything. That was covered in half my class and I didn't understand it at all. Tell your professor to choose another book as supplemental material for such a class.

Mr. Hall's content is fine, if you can get past his tedious language. It's obvious that he was an Egyptologist, since he handles the material with a lighter touch. As I read on, I realized that the author was British (no crime, obviously), but his use of language seemed stilted, almost archaic. For example, he uses "shew" instead of "show." Later, he made reference to a situation that involved the British in India. Okay, Britain hasn't owned India since the late 1940s, so we're beginning to narrow the field. I eventually checked "Henry R. Hall" in Wikipedia, and here's what I found: The author's correct name is Henry R. H. Hall. He wrote this particular work in 1913. If I want to read a 100-year-old book, I have every right to do so. I'd just like to know what exactly I'm reading when Amazon offers no information concerning the author or copyright date of the material, other than their Kindle publication date. I shouldn't have to research the author elsewhere to get the story. Those of you who are old hands at ebooks likely will scoff at my irritation, and you might be right. As I said, caveat emptor. I get it. Still, had I known I would have been forced to wade through century-old language and miss out on the latest findings, I would have spent more money and downloaded something else.

Data and descriptions are very thorough and credible and cite many investigators that would be important to those engaged in that line of work. Not much on interesting descriptions and postulates on life of people in those days....

Of course, the book is dated. But for anyone wanting to get a broad based understanding of this massive topic, you can't go wrong. He puts the civilizations in prospective and covers their major achievements.

different (and please remove that subtitle)

This is probably the first M/M shifter story I read whose scope goes beyond that of easy entertainment to aim for fine literature instead. Writing style is complex and is the clear result of careful thought. The plot is less important than the depiction of the psychologies involved.
All that is less than expected, especially reading the subtitle (which has nothing to do with the actual content, one may wonder why), but not unwelcome: it would be nice to see this subgenre evolve.
The end result is not entirely satisfying though: writing is complex but also kind of convoluted; that J.S. is not the happy-go-lucky he appears to be we have to divine from Jesse's thoughts and Jesse's thoughts, which are so important to understand the story, are often unnecessarily obscure and intermingled with irrelevant details.

Great M/M romance shifter style. J.D. is going to be Alpha someday, but the guy in charge now is trying to stop that. He's embezzled funds from the pride and blames J.D. Jesse, Omega, loves J.D., but J.D. ended their relationship and ignores him. he's got to deal with this problem. How will he clear himself. Jesse is a very insecure, low self esteem guy, who has never shifted- with the circumstances of his childhood, and he's devastated that he's not able to be with J.D. who he still loves. Jesse must gain strength and stand by his man/lion, prove he's man enough to be worthy. Interesting tale of deceit and longing. We get action, romance, a score settled and a happy ending. Hot sex and deep emotions make this tale worthwhile. E N J O Y !!!

The story is action packed with physical and mental hurtles that are realistic as well as hot!! Bringing in the paranormal aspects turn it into steaming! No errors in the writing make it supernova. An absolutely wonderful book!

Andrew Barker is Emeritus Professor of Classics at the University of Birmingham. He has been researching in the field of ancient Greek music and musical theory since the 1970s, and has published six books (including The Science of Harmonics in Classical Greece (Cambridge University Press, 2007) and a great many articles on these topics. He is the Founding President of the International Society for the Study of Greek and Roman Music (Moisa), and Editor of the journal Greek and Roman Musical Studies.
