A professor emeritus at Oklahoma State University, Dr. Kevin E. Murphy earned his Ph.D. at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and his B.S. and M.S. in Accounting at Utah State University. He has published articles in the JOURNAL OF THE AMERICAN TAXATION ASSOCIATION and THE JOURNAL OF ACCOUNTING EDUCATION. Dr. Murphy is a member of the American Accounting Association and the American Taxation Association.

Dr. Mark Higgins is Dean and The Alfred J. Verrecchia and Hasbro Inc. Leadership Chair in Business at the University of Rhode Island. He earned his Ph.D. at the University of Tennessee and his B.S. and M.S. in Accounting at the University of South Carolina. He has articles published in ACCOUNTING HISTORIANS JOURNAL, JOURNAL OF ACCOUNTING EDUCATION, TAXATION FOR ACCOUNTANTS, CRITICAL PERSPECTIVES IN ACCOUNTING, JOURNAL OF LEGAL TAX RESEARCH, THE CPA JOURNAL, and THE TAX ADVISER. He is also a Certified Public Accountant (inactive).

I purchased this book for my tax class. Amazon offered it NEW for the same price the bookstore offered it USED. I decided it was a pretty good deal. I didn't purchase the book for personal pleasure, but I found that it is actually a pretty interesting read. It is not thick to understand, but each concept is supplemented with an example (or multiple examples) which makes the material a LOT easier and thorough. I would recommend this book for anyone who wants to learn the tax system and make the most out of their tax return. I know I will be referencing it in the future.

This book helped me pass the REG section of the CPA Exam. I did not do well in taxation back in college, but this book helped me understand the reason why a certain tax code exists. This book explains concepts very well and rightfully justifies its title.

Yesterday 6/15/09, I went toward University and take the book for consulting over deductions and IRA , saw amazed that chapter 14,15 was incomplete.
This product have one defect in your pages, the book have not pages since 647 to 678, therefore, I believe that these products should be revised for you and what's more have good image over your institution.

About the Author
DAVID O SULLIVAN, PhD, is Assistant Professor of Geography at The Pennsylvania State University in University Park, Pennsylvania.

DAVID J. UNWIN, MPhil, formerly Professor of Geography at Birkbeck College in the University of London, UK, is currently Director of Learning Programmes at UKeUniversities Worldwide. He is also the author of Computer Programming for Geographers (with J. A. Dawson) and coeditor of Visualization in Geographic Information Systems (with Hilary M. Hearnshaw), both published by Wiley.

Good basic introduction

I bought this book to assist with me the geographic analysis of human rights violations in Zimbabwe. I have no prior experience or qualifications in geography or GIS, but have taken to the field through the necesssity of the work that I do. This book is a technical and mathematical introduction to geographical information analysis. It helps you understand the principles of eg kriging, or the different sorts of geographical data (point, line and polygon) and the kinds of analysis one can do with them. It does this fairly efficiently and it has certainly given me some ideas on possible future paths to take.
However, it is more of a technical guide to the methods than an ideas book. And although I did not understand everything on the first pass, I must say that I imagine more experienced or technical people would be rather disappointed at the depth of the content. It seems a bit simple, and is clearly aimed as an undergrad primer.

Too much history, not enough application

I read this book because it was required for a graduate level environmental science course. Although it progresses nicely, it gets caught up in the research history pertaining to every model, process etc.. It also lacks application in many instances and guidance on how to conduct the actual analysis. I would recommend this text to be used in purely geography classes and not by separate disciplines that dabble in geography.

For dogs and puppies

I got this book after hearing all the buzz about it. It's actually for dogs and puppies, not just puppies, and is a more updated version of her first book. So anyone interested in the Control Unleashed book should get this newest version. I'm interested in McDevitt's techniques for teaching a dog how to return to calmness in situations which can be very exciting. There's a lot here that's geared towards "sport" dogs (agility, etc.) but work equally well for reactive and high-energy dogs. Like a some others, McDevitt's point of view is to have the dog work with you rather than to make the dog listen to your commands. I've just watched Susan Garrett's Crate Games, and both she and McDevitt talk about how the dog makes choices, and creating an environment in which the dog makes 'good choices' is the goal. The exercises in the CU book will leave you with a dog who looks to you for guidance and one who stays under control even during very exciting events.

Very good content but poor organization

I really enjoyed reading this book. In order to get the maximum benefits from it though, you should definitely read it more than once and start highlighting or making notes of the games you want to play with your dog. The book has really good training advice and games to play with your pet, with a focus on agility. However, I found the tips and games in this book a bit difficult to utilize since they were sort of scattered all over the place. I had a hard time remembering which chapter to turn back to in order to refresh my memory about how to play a certain game. It would have been nice if all of the games in the book where listed in one, easy to access area.

Nonetheless, this book is a very solid book. It taught me all about the premack principle, which I effectively use with my dog all the time. The games are also fun. Both me and my dog learned a lot from them even though we don't do any agility at all. Despite its poor organization, it's still a really good book and worth every penny I paid.

A life saver for all puppies (not just prospective show animals)

We brought home a 3 month old mutt rescue and bought this book at the recommendation of our vet to help us help him calm his little puppy nerves and get used to life with us. It was INDESPENSIBLE. I read everything I could about bringing home a dog, and while I learned a zillion things about puppy pop psychology, I didn't learn what I could do about teaching a pup to learn self confidence around people and other dogs.
We saw a change almost immediately after working through pieces of McDevitt's book. Mat training (giving the dog a safe place to be calm), the fundamentals of using a clicker for immediate reinforcement, and the how-to behind letting your pup solve problems himself to let him enter the outside world confidently were really lifesavers for us and him. Totally great.
