James L. Patton is professor emeritus of integrative biology and curator of mammals at the Museum of Vertebrate Zoology, University of California, Berkeley. He is coeditor of Life Underground: The Biology of Subterranean Rodents, also published by the University of Chicago Press. He lives in Kensington, CA. Ulyses F. J. Pardiñas is senior scientist at the Centro Nacional Patagónico, Puerto Madryn, Argentina. Guillermo D’Elía is professor in the Instituto de Ciencias Ambientales y Evolutivas at the Universidad Austral de Chile, Valdivia.

An immense effort

I was Reading the book and it is certainly a complete updated revision of the extant neotropical rodents. The book shows a carefully and detailed treatment of each taxon at species level. Noticeable, the text includes updated molecular, ecological and also paleontological information. It is totally useful and necessary for studies on extant and also extinct rodents of South America. Selected photographs of dentition could be an excelent option for next edition!.

Excellent book!

Great book, one that will have a profound impact on future studies on the diversity of this important group. The accounts update the knowledge on taxonomy, distribution and even ecology for many of the groups that were poorly covered in previous studies.
