Right up there with the Platform Sutra. Absolutely amazing

Cleary's translation (not "illustration!") of the Denkoroku is poignant, engaging, and by far one of the profoundest texts I've ever encountered. The extremely lucid teachings of nonduality contained within will certainly be of use to both the beginning Buddhist and advanced practioner, and will help to dispel the dualistic thinking that even some "experienced" Zennists persistently cling to. Keizan Zenji's message is strikingly clear:

"Furthermore, for long eons now how many times have you gone through birth and death, how many times have you come to produce and destroy mind and body? Some may think that this coming and going in birth and death is a dream, an illusion--what a laugh! Is there something that is born and dies, comes and goes, anyway? What would you call the real human body? What do you call dream illusions?

"Therefore you should not understand life and death as empty illusions either, nor should you understand them as true reality. . . . [B]oth or these understandings are wrong when you reach here. . . .

"If you want to know the reason why, it is because this realm is not affected by becoming, substinence, decay, and annihilation. How can selfhood and otherness be considered causeless? When you have forgotten outside objects and abandoned conditioned thought within, and 'even the clear sky gets a beating,' you are clean and naked, bare and untrammeled. If you perceive minutely, you will be empty and spiritual, clear and sublime."

It doesn't get any higher than that. I don't know why this book isn't more popular. Then again, perhaps it's just too deep for the American "Zen of such-and-such" society, who are content to live with a clear mind without ever discering what it actually is.

Higher Resolution, Please...

A good idea made with average skill: The tabs are just barely legible on my iPad at the scan resolution used. Reading on the laptop Kindle app actually proved to be WORSE as i was not able to enlarge the pictures of the tab pages. This endeavor would have been better accomplished through secure PDF if the are not going to offer scans at higher resolution. Stick with hard copies of tabs until higher resolution offered. publisher should list the resolution of pictures based on hard copy size (roughly 9"x12"); 300 dpi should be considered a minimum resolution.

I purchased this music book because I'm teaching myself to play bass
and having the tabs along with the music helps me find the frets quicker.

The Stones music is pretty easy to follow. I learned "Let's Spend the Night Together" In only a few tries.

Now, I am going to get the matching CD to play along.

Another excellent textbook

A very useful textbook for both undergraduate and advanced courses on stochastic models in finance. The first part is a comprehensive but readable and well understandable introduction to Financial Mathematics. The second part on discrete time stochastic models is based on some background knowledge of Stochastic Programming. The theory is well balanced with many practical examples from various areas. The chapter is concluded by a review of numerical techniques of solving stochastic programs. The third part describes the continuous time financial models based on the theory of Stochastic Processes.

Abandoned by his father, neglected by his mother, shuttled between foster homes and a boys ranch for most of his formative years, a young man refuses to succumb to the fate that the world says should be his. Born the second of five children to a woman who not once had a name to write in the blank space left for father on her children's birth certificates, Alton Carter does not mince words as he describes a childhood full of violence and hunger and isolation. Early on, Alton decides he wants a "normal life" even if that means standing up to abusive relatives and being teased by his siblings and cousins. Along the way, he keeps an eye out for those who might help lighten the load, never losing hope that such people exist.

About the Author
A former foster child and police officer, Alton Carter is the director of youth ministries for the First United Methodist Church of Stillwater, Oklahoma. He is a graduate of Oklahoma State University. The father of two sons, Kelton and Colin, he loves spending time with his family, working with youngsters, and fishing. He makes his home in Stillwater, with his wife, Kristin. This is his first book.

This book is of his life as a child through high school; however, because we know of this author as a strong, respected, outgoing, productive adult and influential community leader, it is even more remarkable to us that he has been able to rise far above the mistreatment he received growing up.

This true story of the author's childhood and youth filled with abuse and neglect is appalling, heart sickening, an eye opener to what some children have to endure. However, it is also an amazing, inspiring, story of determination to rise above childhood adversity of the cruelest kind to become a compassionate, positive, Christian role model and advocate for youth today. Amazing.

Im only 13 years old, and i think that this is truly an amazing book. My whole class read it, and there was nobody who had negative feelings towards it. I recommend this book to anybody who has been bullied, abused, or felt like nobody cared. Alton's story will change you.

In this lucid and engaging analysis of the nature of society, Roger Trigg examines the scientific basis of social science and shows that philosophical presuppositions are a necessary starting point for the study of society.

This second edition contains three new chapters that demonstrate the relationship of the philosophy of social science to politics, and takes into account recent developments including the impact of rational choice theory, and attacks on the possibility of reason by postmodernists.

Themes in the book include the relation of individual to society, the basis of our understanding of other societies, and the character of social reality. Is there such a thing as society? What of the threat of relativism? These and other questions are examined in depth, but with a clarity that introduces the issues to those new to the subject.

About the Author
Roger Trigg is Professor of Philosophy at the University of Warwick. His most recent books include Rationality and Science (Blackwell, 1993), Rationality and Religion (Blackwell, 1998), the widely-read Ideas of Human Nature (second edition, Blackwell, 1999), and Philosophy Matters (Blackwell, forthcoming).

Had to read for my Anthropology capstone class, and I loved it! We were a little worried ready a philosophy book, but it's not so bad of a read, and has a lot of great insights.
